What this phase does for you

The Benefits of Phase 1

Phase 1 works at the root cause — before symptoms, before hormones, before anything else. This is where your transformation actually begins.

🌿
Bloating reduced
Removing gluten, dairy, and inflammatory oils allows the gut lining to begin repairing — most clients notice a significant shift within 7–10 days.
Steadier energy
Eliminating refined sugar stops the blood sugar rollercoaster that drives 3pm crashes, fatigue, and brain fog.
Clearer skin
Dairy and sugar are the two most common dietary drivers of adult acne. Most clients notice skin changes by Day 10.
🧠
Mental clarity
Neuroinflammation drops as gut inflammation reduces. Brain fog lifts within the first two weeks for the majority of clients.
😴
Better sleep
Removing alcohol and inflammatory foods supports deeper, more restorative sleep stages from Week 1.
🦠
Microbiome reset
Probiotic foods begin reshaping gut bacteria — the root of hormonal and immune health.

What happens

Your Two-Week Journey

Each week builds on the last. Here's what you'll be doing and why it matters.

1
Week 1 — Anti-Inflammatory Foundations
Full removal of gluten, dairy, refined sugar, and alcohol. Protein with every meal. 2.5L water daily. Introduce omega-3 rich foods, cruciferous vegetables, and probiotic foods.
2
Week 2 — Gut Soothe Protocol
Shifts emphasis toward probiotic-rich foods for active gut repair. Add ginger and turmeric daily. Note any foods that consistently cause bloating for your first Jana consultation.

Common Challenges

Every client experiences some of these. Here's exactly what to do for each one.

🤕
Headaches (Days 1–3)
Tap to see what to do
  • Almost always caffeine or sugar withdrawal — this means the protocol is working.
  • Drink 2.5L water daily and add a pinch of sea salt to your morning water.
  • Peppermint tea or a cold compress provides fast relief.
  • If drinking 3+ coffees daily, taper by half a cup per day rather than stopping cold.
  • Headaches from withdrawal peak at Day 2 and are typically gone by Day 4.
😴
Fatigue in the first 5 days
Tap to see what to do
  • Your body is switching fuel sources. This is temporary and a sign it's working.
  • Do not skip meals. Eat 3 full meals with protein at each one.
  • Aim for 8 hours of sleep during Week 1 — sleep is Phase 1 medicine.
  • Gentle movement only: walking, stretching, yoga. Save intense workouts for Week 2.
  • A handful of nuts or seeds mid-afternoon if energy dips severely.
🍫
Intense cravings (Days 2–5)
Tap to see what to do
  • Sugar cravings peak around Day 3 and are driven by blood sugar instability, not willpower.
  • Eat protein within 30 minutes of waking — this anchors morning cortisol and cuts cravings.
  • When a craving hits: drink 500ml of water first. Many cravings dissolve.
  • Approved sweet options: blueberries, 2 medjool dates, coconut yogurt with cinnamon.
  • Salty cravings: cucumber with hummus, celery with almond butter, olives.
💨
Bloating increases initially
Tap to see what to do
  • Temporary bloating when introducing new vegetables is normal — your microbiome is adjusting.
  • Soak legumes overnight and rinse thoroughly. This reduces gas-producing compounds.
  • Chew food slowly — digestive enzyme production starts in the mouth.
  • Ginger tea after meals: steep 1 inch fresh ginger for 10 minutes.
  • If specific vegetables consistently cause bloating, note them for your Jana consultation.
😤
Mood dips and irritability
Tap to see what to do
  • Blood sugar instability drives cortisol spikes which directly affect mood. This normalises.
  • Do not let more than 4 hours pass between meals during Week 1.
  • Magnesium-rich foods help: leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, 1–2 squares of 85% dark chocolate.
  • Most clients report irritability lifting suddenly around Day 5.
  • The gut-mood connection is real — as gut inflammation reduces, mood lifts significantly.

Nutritional support

Phase 1 Supplements

Phase 1 supplement support directly addresses the gut repair and anti-inflammatory work happening in your cells right now.

Always confirm with Jana during your consultation before adding anything new, especially if you are taking medications.
🦠
High-quality probiotic
10–50 billion CFU daily, with breakfast
Repopulates beneficial gut bacteria disrupted by years of inflammatory eating. Look for multi-strain formulas with Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Refrigerated is preferable.
🐟
Omega-3 (fish or algae oil)
2–3g EPA+DHA daily, with food
Directly counters the inflammatory signalling driving your symptoms. Take with your largest meal to improve absorption. Algae-based for vegans.
🌿
Magnesium glycinate
200–400mg before bed
Supports sleep quality, reduces muscle tension, and helps with constipation common in the transition week. Glycinate is the gentlest, most absorbed form.
🌱
L-Glutamine
5g in water on an empty stomach, morning
Directly feeds the intestinal epithelial cells that form the gut lining. Most valuable if you experience significant digestive symptoms in Week 1.
☀️
Vitamin D3 + K2
2000–5000 IU D3 with K2 (100–200mcg), with fat
Most Canadians are deficient. Vitamin D modulates immune and inflammatory response. K2 ensures proper calcium routing. Take with a meal containing fat.

A Personal Note

Jana — WellClinica
Jana · Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner
Phase 1 is the phase most clients underestimate — because it feels like restriction. It isn't. Every meal you eat this week is actively rebuilding your gut lining and reducing the inflammation that drives your symptoms. The discomfort in the first 3 days is your body making a real adjustment. Stay with it. By Day 7, you will feel the difference.
